Israel’s Health Ministry said a wolf infected with rabies was discovered in Kiryat Shmona in the Upper Galilee. Eight people who came into contact with the animal were referred for preventive rabies treatment.
The ministry urged anyone who may have had contact with stray animals in the area between June 5 and June 19 to urgently contact the Safed District Health Office or go to an emergency room. It also asked pet owners to speak with the municipal veterinarian to confirm their animals’ vaccination status.
The warning comes as officials try to identify additional possible exposures and prevent further infection after the rabid animal was found in the northern city.
