Israel’s Health Ministry said a sheep infected with rabies was discovered in a flock in the village of Ghajar in the Upper Galilee. One person who had been exposed to the animal has already been referred for preventive rabies treatment.
In its notice, the ministry urged anyone who had contact with the infected animal, or whose animals may have come into contact with it or with a stray animal in the area, to seek urgent advice about preventive treatment. The warning applies to exposures in the area from May 29, 2026, through June 15, 2026, inclusive.
People are being told to contact the Health Ministry office in Safed at 04-6994257 or 04-6994200, or the nearest health bureau to their home. The ministry said that outside working hours and during the weekend, people should go to a hospital emergency room.
