Israel’s Health Ministry said a sheep infected with rabies was discovered in a sheep herd in Ghajar, in the Upper Galilee. One person who was exposed to the animal has been referred for preventive treatment.
The ministry is urging anyone who had contact with animals in the area between May 29, 2026 and June 15, 2026 to urgently contact the Safed Health Office at 04-6994257 or 04-6994200, or to reach a nearby health office.
Pet owners are also being asked to contact their municipal veterinarian to make sure vaccinations are up to date. The ministry reminded the public that anyone bitten or scratched by an animal should wash the area with soap and water, disinfect it, and seek help from a health office.
