Over 60,000 Attend Global 'General Rectification' Event in Uman

More than 60,000 Hasidic followers of Rabbi Nachman of Breslov and other Jewish pilgrims gathered in Uman, Ukraine, for the annual 'General Rectification' prayer event held on the eve of Rosh Hashanah. The massive attendance, estimated to be a record since before the COVID-19 pandemic, prompted a significant security and emergency response.

Rabbi Natan Ben Nun, chairman of the Breslov Union in Uman, oversaw the operation from a central command post. The post was equipped with live feeds from dozens of surveillance cameras covering the area around Rabbi Nachman's tomb. Senior representatives from emergency and security forces, including Oz Avizov, director of resilience for the ZAKA organization, joined Rabbi Ben Nun to monitor crowd density and prepare for any potential emergency scenarios.

Following the successful conclusion of the prayer gathering, Rabbi Ben Nun expressed satisfaction with the unprecedented preparations made for the large numbers. He noted that the event was the largest since before the pandemic and that preparations are now underway for Rosh Hashanah itself, when tens of thousands more are expected.

"We are now preparing for the Rosh Hashanah days, when tens of thousands of people are expected to stay in Uman. This year, over 60,000 people arrived in Uman from all over the world," Rabbi Ben Nun stated. He concluded with a prayer for the safe conclusion of the pilgrimage, hoping the Rosh Hashanah gathering would end peacefully and without incident.
