Uman Prepares for Rosh Hashanah Pilgrimage of 50,000 Devotees

Preparations are intensifying in Uman, Ukraine, as the city braces for the arrival of over 50,000 pilgrims for Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, to visit the tomb of Rabbi Nachman of Breslov. Recent days have seen intensive coordination meetings between the Breslov Union in Uman, the Uman city council, and local police to manage the expected heavy crowds and traffic.

A key meeting held at the Breslov Union offices included senior Uman city officials, the commander of the Uman police, the deputy mayor, Rabbi Natan Ben Nun, chairman of the Breslov Union, and activist Rabbi Levi Yitzchak Gvirz. Discussions focused on traffic arrangements on Pushkina Street and routes leading to the tomb, as well as anticipated congestion at the city's entrances.

Rabbi Ben Nun requested leniency from city and police representatives regarding the tourist tax and urged efforts to minimize delays and congestion for pilgrims arriving after long journeys. The Breslov Union described close collaboration with city and police officials, who are actively involved in ensuring order and smooth operations.

Additionally, the organization 'Uman Sheli' is preparing to bolster city cleaning services and establish a reception system to assist pilgrims upon their arrival. The organization's chairman, Rabbi Mordechai Gottlieb, along with Rabbi Nachman Bena'aya and project manager Meir Margalit, presented these plans during the meeting.
