Soldier and Two Civilians Arrested in Plot to Steal IDF Rifles
An Israeli soldier and two civilians have been arrested on suspicion of involvement in a serious arms trafficking scheme, which allegedly included the theft of three M4 rifles from a naval base in Atlit. The arrests were announced Thursday by the police and the Military Police Investigation Unit.
The soldier, who serves at a base in northern Israel, appeared before a military court, which extended his detention until next Wednesday for investigative purposes. The two civilian suspects, residents of Netanya, had their detentions extended by five days and one week, respectively. Following the completion of the investigation, the case will be reviewed by the prosecution.
Authorities stated that they will continue to act decisively and collaboratively against the trafficking and leakage of military weapons into unauthorized hands, emphasizing the significant danger this poses to public safety and the potential for these weapons to be used in serious criminal offenses.
