IDF Central Command Officer Arrested for Suspected Weapons Theft from Unit Base
An officer from the IDF Central Command was arrested on suspicion of stealing weapons from his unit's base, according to the elite Duvdevan Unit and IDF Spokesperson. The incident, which occurred within the last 24 hours, has caused shock within the unit. Following initial evidence collection, the Military Police Investigations Unit (MPIU) detained the officer along with another military personnel. Both suspects were transferred for interrogation and subsequently brought before a military court, where the officer's detention was extended for further investigation.
The MPIU is examining whether additional soldiers were involved and if this is an isolated case. The IDF has prioritized the protection and security of weapons, explosives, and ammunition amid a sharp rise in criminal demand for arms, despite ongoing smuggling attempts across Israel's borders with Jordan and Egypt. Firearms prices have surged to tens of thousands of shekels due to this demand.
An official military source confirmed the arrest of a second suspect who is not an officer, with his detention extended until Monday for investigative purposes. The IDF continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the theft and the potential involvement of other personnel.
