IDF Investigates Theft of 18 Grenades From Southern Base, Possible Insider Involvement

Over the past weekend, 18 grenades were stolen from an Israel Defense Forces base in southern Israel, including 15 fragmentation grenades valued at tens of thousands of shekels on the black market. The incident has raised serious security concerns, as such thefts from military bases in the south have occurred frequently in recent years.

The investigation is being jointly conducted by the IDF and Israeli police, focusing on whether the theft was the result of an external break-in or involved cooperation from within the base itself. The latter possibility is considered particularly severe.

The IDF spokesperson emphasized the military's commitment to preventing such incidents, stating that the IDF takes every theft of weapons seriously and is investing significant resources to strengthen base security. The Military Police Investigations Unit has opened a formal inquiry, and its findings will be forwarded to the Military Prosecution for further action. Authorities have pledged to pursue the perpetrators rigorously and impose harsher penalties for these offenses.
