Israeli Police Seize Large Weapons Cache Including 36 Grenades in Jerusalem Home
Jerusalem police uncovered a significant arsenal of weapons hidden inside a residential building over the weekend. The cache included 36 grenades, an assault rifle (Kalashnikov), a hunting rifle, explosives, and various bomb-making materials, all concealed in children’s rooms and a playroom. The discovery was made during a proactive search operation by the Moriah police station in cooperation with Border Police dog units.
Authorities stated that the weapons posed an immediate and serious danger to the residents of the shared apartment building. Some of the seized items are believed to have been stolen from the Israel Defense Forces or smuggled from conflict zones, intended for criminal or terrorist use. The police emphasized the severity of storing explosives in a civilian environment.
Following the seizure, investigators continued efforts to locate the main suspect responsible for the theft and possession of the weapons. Early Sunday morning, the suspect, a man in his twenties, was arrested upon landing at Ben Gurion Airport and taken in for questioning. Police plan to request an extension of his detention due to the gravity of the offenses.
The Israeli police urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious weapons or explosives immediately to emergency services, warning against handling such items personally. Recent months have seen a rise in illegal arms trafficking from military zones to civilian areas, posing a significant threat to public safety.
