Israeli Political Parties Form Alliances Ahead of Elections

Four centrist political parties in Israel have finalized surplus vote agreements ahead of the upcoming elections, dividing into two pairs. The "Achdut" party, led by Naftali Bennett, will form an alliance with Avigdor Lieberman's Yisrael Beiteinu party. Simultaneously, Gadi Eisenkot's "Yashar!" party has agreed to a similar pact with Yair Golan's "HaDemocratim" party.

The agreements aim to prevent the loss of votes by ensuring that any ballot cast for these parties will contribute to their combined electoral strength. This strategic move consolidates the "change bloc" into two distinct electoral partnerships.

Political analysts suggest that Eisenkot may have preferred an agreement with Yisrael Beiteinu over HaDemocratim. Reports from the previous week indicated that both Bennett and Eisenkot had separately approached Lieberman seeking an alliance, with the understanding that the party not reaching an agreement with Lieberman would likely align with Golan's party.

Yashar! stated that Eisenkot had been working to "optimally organize the bloc of change and hope" in recent weeks. The party expressed satisfaction that the current alignment of four parties allowed for these internal surplus vote agreements. They emphasized that "every vote from Israelis seeking change and the replacement of the October 7th failure government will go to one of the change parties and prevent the loss of votes."

HaDemocratim also welcomed the agreement with Yashar!, stating their goal is to "prevent the loss of votes, maximize the bloc's power, and replace the October 7th failure government." They added that their objective is to "form a strong, state-oriented, and democratic government that will fix Israel and set it on a new path."
