Israeli Man Sentenced to 13 Years for Fatal Stone-Throwing Attack

A district court in Lod, Israel, has sentenced a Jewish man to 13 years in prison for throwing a large stone at a Palestinian vehicle in 2018, an act that resulted in the death of Aisha Rabi. The defendant, who was 15 years old at the time of the incident, threw a roughly 2-kilogram stone at the car carrying Rabi, her husband, and their 9-year-old daughter. The court determined the attack was motivated by nationalism, convicting the man of manslaughter under terror circumstances and other related offenses. In addition to the prison sentence, he received a suspended sentence and was ordered to pay NIS 258,000 in compensation to Rabi's family, the maximum amount stipulated by law. The defendant continues to deny any involvement in the incident for which he was convicted, though he has expressed regret. The court noted that while the defendant's young age at the time of the offense and his subsequent rehabilitation were considered, the severity of his actions, their consequences, and the nationalistic motive were significant factors in the sentencing. Judges described the act as "criminal and cruel," emphasizing that the defendant ended the life of "a woman, a wife, and a mother of nine children" in front of her family. Rabi's husband stated that true justice would have been for his wife to continue living with her family while the defendant pursued his education.
