Israel's population has reached approximately 10.305 million people as the country prepares to celebrate Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year. The Central Bureau of Statistics released the figures ahead of the holiday, which marks the beginning of the Jewish year 5784.
The population has grown significantly over the past year, with the Central Bureau of Statistics reporting an increase of around 189,000 people, a growth rate of 1.9%. This growth is attributed to natural increase, with 177,000 births and 52,000 deaths, as well as immigration.
As of the eve of Rosh Hashanah, the population is comprised of 7.193 million Jewish individuals, representing 70% of the total population. The Arab population stands at 2.048 million, making up 20% of the total. The remaining 1.064 million people, or 10%, are defined as 'others', including non-Arab Christians and individuals of other faiths or no religious affiliation.
The Central Bureau of Statistics also provided demographic projections for the coming year. It is estimated that by the eve of Rosh Hashanah in 2024, Israel's population will reach approximately 10.522 million.
