Romanian Midfielder Hagi Nears Transfer to Maccabi Tel Aviv

Romanian midfielder Ianis Hagi, son of legendary player Gheorghe Hagi, is reportedly close to signing with Maccabi Tel Aviv, according to a report from Romanian outlet "Fanatik." The 27-year-old player has allegedly reached an agreement with the Israeli club and is expected to arrive in Israel as early as Wednesday to finalize the transfer.

Hagi is slated to undergo medical tests on Wednesday, and if no issues arise, the deal could be made official shortly thereafter. "Fanatik" claims that negotiations have progressed to an agreement, and Hagi is eager to conclude his tenure with Turkish club Alanyaspor, which he joined in the summer of 2025.

This latest report builds on earlier news from Tuesday, where Romanian agent Ioan "Gigi" Becali confirmed an offer from Maccabi Tel Aviv. Hagi has prior connections with individuals at Maccabi Tel Aviv, having played alongside James Tavernier at Rangers and being known to Kenny Miller from their time in Scottish football.

Maccabi Tel Aviv can only register Hagi if they resolve the situation with current foreign player Jhon Nicolescu. The club currently has eight foreign players on its roster, and without finding a solution for Nicolescu, they cannot add Hagi. The transfer window in Israel closes on September 16, leaving the team eight days to find a resolution for Nicolescu or be unable to sign another foreign player.
