Arkia Launches Direct Flights to Manila, Challenging El Al

Israeli airline Arkia will commence direct flights from Israel to Manila, Philippines, starting January 3, 2027. This move positions Arkia to launch the route ahead of competitor El Al, which had previously announced plans for the same destination in February but has yet to set a launch date. The flights will operate on Sundays using a GullivAir Airbus A330, with a journey time of approximately 11 hours. The service is scheduled for a four-month period, from January to April 2027, coinciding with the optimal travel season for the Philippines. Each flight will accommodate 287 passengers, with 268 in economy and 19 in business class. One-way ticket prices will start at $750 for economy and $1800 for business class. El Al had previously stated its intention to operate three weekly flights to Manila with a Boeing 787, though specific details remain undisclosed. If both airlines launch their services, they will become direct competitors on the Philippines route. Arkia CEO Oz Berlovich stated that the new route is expected to increase competition and offer Israeli travelers more attractive pricing. This announcement comes as international air travel through Ben Gurion Airport gradually recovers, with several foreign carriers planning to resume operations in the coming months. Arkia is also expanding its international presence and preparing to launch additional routes.
