Shas Party Taps Military Veteran Dror Amos for Knesset Seat

Dror David Amos, a reservist Major in the IDF, is joining the Shas party and will be placed sixth on its list for the 26th Knesset, the party announced Tuesday following a decision by its Council of Torah Sages. Amos brings decades of military, public, and social experience, having served over 25 years in the IDF's Logistics Corps in various command and management roles.

After his military service, Amos founded the "Chessed Chaim V'Emet" (Kindness, Life, and Truth) organization, which supports bereaved and bereaved families, serving as its chairman. For the past year and a half, he has chaired the Religious Council in Haifa, working to improve religious services and support for residents.

Amos expressed his enthusiasm for joining Shas under Chairman Aryeh Deri, calling it a "big family that embraces both the Torah scholar and the soldier." He stated his intention to foster unity and connection between different segments of the public, working to bridge divides with responsibility, mutual guarantee, and respect for tradition and the state, guided by the teachings of Rabbi Ovadia Yosef.

Shas Chairman Rabbi Aryeh Deri welcomed Amos, highlighting his extensive experience in the military, public service, and religious affairs as a valuable addition to the party's slate. Deri reiterated that Shas represents all of Israel, including Torah scholars and soldiers, tradition and mutual responsibility, values he sees embodied in Amos.

Amos is one of two new candidates joining the Shas list, the other being Yosef Elnatov, who is placed eleventh. Their inclusion follows the decision of veteran Knesset members Yaakov Margi and Moshe Arbel not to run on the party's list in the upcoming election.
