Shas Party Considers Military Veterans to Strengthen Knesset List Ahead of Elections

As the deadline for submitting party lists approaches, the Shas party is exploring options to bolster its Knesset slate by including candidates with military and security backgrounds. According to a report by i24NEWS correspondent Eli Kalman, Shas leaders are currently considering several notable figures. Among them is retired Lieutenant Colonel Dror Amos, who serves as chairman of the Religious Council in Haifa and has reportedly received an offer from Shas chairman Aryeh Deri and other party officials to join the list. Another potential candidate is retired Lieutenant Colonel Yossi Levi, CEO of the "Netzach Yehuda" association and commander of a Haredi battalion in the reserves.

This search for a military figure coincides with preparations for launching Shas's campaign targeting the Haredi sector. The party faces a complex image challenge: on one hand, appealing to the traditional public by expressing appreciation for IDF soldiers; on the other, addressing the Haredi community by emphasizing the importance of Torah study and religious observance. Shas hopes that integrating a security-related candidate will help bridge these gaps and strengthen its outreach to broader audiences within the national and traditional camp.
