Ex-Military Officer Dror Amos Tapped for Shas Party Knesset List

The Shas party is preparing its list for the 26th Knesset, with its Council of Torah Sages convening Sunday to discuss the slate. A final decision is expected Tuesday, ahead of the deadline for submission to the Central Elections Committee.

While the list is not yet finalized, political sources indicate that retired Lieutenant Colonel Dror Amos is slated for a protected spot on the Shas list, representing the "man of the army" slot. Party leader Aryeh Deri aims to broaden Shas's appeal to traditional religious voters, including those serving in active duty and reserves, by including Amos.

Amos currently serves as the head of the Haifa Religious Council. He completed a lengthy career in the IDF, retiring with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Shas sees potential in combining his command and security background with his experience managing religious and public systems, viewing him as a valuable asset for the upcoming elections.
