Lawyer David Peter to Join Likud Party's Knesset List

The Likud party announced Tuesday that attorney David Peter, a legal expert in constitutional, public, and commercial law, will be placed on its list for the 26th Knesset elections. Peter recently gained public attention for representing Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir in a petition seeking his dismissal from office. During the court proceedings, Peter challenged the court's jurisdiction and made notable remarks to the judges, ultimately preventing Ben-Gvir's removal.

Peter is also a public commentator and recently joined a panel on Channel 14's "The Patriots" program. He is considered popular within right-wing circles. Peter holds bachelor's and master's degrees from Bar-Ilan University and is currently pursuing his doctorate there. His legal career has focused on the relationships between government branches, the justice system, individual liberties, and Israeli democracy.

Born in Hungary during the communist era, Peter is a second-generation Holocaust survivor. His family immigrated to Israel when he was eighteen months old, initially settling in Mevaseret Zion before moving to Haifa. Likud stated that his family's transition from communist rule to a free Israel deeply influenced his worldview and public career.

The party added that Peter brings "legal depth, a sense of mission, and a deep connection between the story of the Jewish people and the State of Israel" to public service. This is the third reserved spot on Likud's list for the upcoming elections. Previously, the party announced reserved positions for reserve soldier Elisha Medan, who lost his legs in Gaza, and Talik Guili, mother of fallen police officer Rani Guili.
