Netanyahu Offers Reserved Knesset Seat to Lawyer David Petel in Likud List

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is actively working to refresh the Likud party list ahead of the upcoming Knesset elections, despite ongoing uncertainty about whether primaries will be held or if a selection committee will decide the list. Among the reserved spots Netanyahu intends to allocate, he recently offered a realistic position to lawyer David Petel, a prominent legal commentator and panelist on Channel 14, according to Amit Segal's report on Channel 12.

David Petel, 39, holds both a bachelor's and master's degree in law and works as a researcher at the Kohelet Policy Forum. He is known for his conservative, right-wing, and economically liberal views and is recognized as a leading media voice supporting the judicial reform. Petel gained prominence for his sharp criticism of judicial activism, law enforcement, and the Attorney General's office, and earned acclaim for representing the government in several High Court petitions where the Attorney General refused to defend government positions.

Petel is not the only public figure recently offered a reserved seat by Netanyahu. The Prime Minister also approached Ari Spitz, a soldier severely wounded in Gaza battles and a recent Independence Day torchbearer, but Spitz declined the offer. Netanyahu's efforts reflect his strategy to bring new faces into the Likud list as the election approaches.
