Veteran Israeli Actor Ilan Dar Dies at 89

Ilan Dar, a prominent and veteran Israeli actor known for his extensive work in theater, film, and television, passed away on Monday at the age of 89. Born Ilan Blauweiss in Tel Aviv in 1937 to Polish immigrant parents, Dar's career spanned over six decades, leaving a significant mark on Israeli culture.

Dar began his acting journey in 1958 at the Ohel Theater before becoming a founding member of the Haifa Theater in 1961. He performed in numerous productions there, later joining the Cameri Theater in 1977. His notable stage roles included characters in "Kastner," "Shira," "Richard III," and "Angels in America," in which he portrayed six different roles. Even after retiring from the Cameri Theater in 1995, he continued to perform across Israel.

On screen, Dar appeared in many films and television series, including "Mita Tova," "Ha'Mossad," "Besurot Tovot," "Kav 300," "Banot Ha'Zahav," and the beloved sitcom "Krovim Krovim." He also ventured into directing and translating plays, and co-created the successful one-man show "Kmo Kadur Ba'Rosh," which was performed hundreds of times nationwide.

Dar's extensive body of work made him an integral part of the Israeli entertainment landscape, with many of his roles becoming ingrained in the national consciousness. He is survived by a legacy of memorable performances on both stage and screen.
