Veteran Israeli Actor Ilan Dar Dies at 89
Ilan Dar, a prominent and veteran actor in Israeli theater, television, and film, has passed away at the age of 89. Born in 1937, Dar began his acting career in his youth and went on to perform in nearly all of Israel's major repertory theaters. He joined the Cameri Theater in 1978, where he played numerous roles, including in productions directed by Hanoch Levin. Later, he moved to the בית ליסין Theater, performing in several notable plays.
Dar was widely recognized by the public for his role as the husband of Tzipi (played by Tuvia Tzafir) in the beloved 1983 Israeli television series "קרובים קרובים" (Neighbors). His television work also included portraying Shin Bet head Avraham Shalom in the drama "קו 300" (Line 300) and Judge Benjamin Halevy in "קסטנר" (Kastner).
His extensive filmography includes appearances in films such as "רק היום" (Only Today), "שתי דפיקות לב" (Two Heartbeats), and "המוסד" (The Institute). One of his significant later film roles was in the 2014 film "מיתה טובה" (The Farewell Party), for which he was nominated for an Ophir Award for Best Supporting Actor.
Throughout his career, Dar received numerous accolades, including the Rubin Prize, the Avraham Ben Yossef Prize, and a Lifetime Achievement Award. In 2018, he was honored with the title "Worthy of Tel Aviv-Yafo." He is survived by his wife, Ruth Dar, a theater designer, and their daughter.
