The story · English

Ilan Dar, a prominent Israeli actor known for his roles in theater and television, has passed away at the age of 89. His funeral is currently taking place.

Dar achieved widespread recognition for his role in "Krovim Krovim" (Close Friends), which is considered the first Hebrew sitcom. He was born Ilan Blauvais in Tel Aviv to Polish immigrant parents. After studying drama at Gymnasia Herzliya, he began his acting career in minor film roles, including parts in "Burekas films" often playing stereotypical Ashkenazi characters.

Concurrently, Dar built a significant theater career. He joined the founding cast of Haifa Theatre in 1961, performing in plays such as "Andorra," "The Caucasian Chalk Circle," "Mother Courage and Her Children," "The Servant of Two Masters," "Three Sisters," and "Uncle Vanya."

In 1977, he moved to the Cameri Theatre, appearing in productions like "The Sufferings of Job," "Suitcase Packers," "Michael Kohlhaas," "Shira," "Richard III," and multiple roles in "Angels in America." After leaving the Cameri in 1995, he performed in other leading theaters, including Beit Lessin, Habima, and Beer Sheva Theatre. At Beit Lessin, his notable performances included "Enda" by Hillel Mittelpunkt, "The Taming of the Shrew" based on Shakespeare, and he portrayed Shimon Peres in the play "Oslo."
