Acclaimed Israeli actor Ilan Dar passed away on Monday at the age of 89. Dar, born Ilan Blauvais in Tel Aviv, began his acting career in the late 1950s at the Ohel Theater, performing in plays such as "Finger Exercise" and "The Good Soldier Švejk." He was a founding member of the Haifa Theater and also performed with the Cameri, Beit Lessin, Beer Sheva, and Habima theaters.

Dar's extensive career spanned theater, film, and television. He directed and translated for the Library Theater and the Cameri, and performed a one-man show at the Tzavta Theater. His film credits include "Not a Word to Morgenstern," "Just Today," and "The Farewell Party," for which he was nominated for an Ophir Award for Best Supporting Actor. On television, he gained widespread recognition for his role in the popular sitcom "Neighbors" (Krovim Krovim) starting in 1983. He also appeared in numerous other series, including "Line 300," "The Kastner Trial," "The 80s," "Here We Live Happily," and "Golden Girls."

Throughout his career, Dar received multiple accolades for his contributions to the arts. He was honored with the Rubin Award, the Avraham Ben Yosef Award, and the Arik Einstein Award for Arts. In 2012, he received a commendation from the Artists' Association of Israel (AMY), and in 2018, he was named an "Esteemed Citizen of Tel Aviv-Yafo." In 2023, he was among 20 artists to receive the Arik Einstein Award from the Ministry of Culture and Sports.

Ilan Dar is survived by his wife, set designer Ruth Dar, and their daughter. The date of his funeral has not yet been announced.
