Susan Sarandon Claims Hollywood Blacklist Over Pro-Palestinian Stance

Oscar-winning actress Susan Sarandon alleges she is facing significant professional repercussions in Hollywood due to her anti-Israel views. Speaking at the Venice Film Festival, where her new film "The Echo Chamber" premiered, Sarandon stated that major talent agencies are warning directors and producers against hiring her. She claims that large U.S. studios are refusing to work with her and others who have expressed pro-Palestinian sentiments.

Sarandon directly accused senior figures in the entertainment industry of maintaining strong anti-Israel positions. "There are still very strong positions held by Zionists in my industry, and their feelings toward me have not softened," she declared. The controversy surrounding her began in November 2023 when her representation by the UTA talent agency was terminated following remarks made at a pro-Palestinian rally.

Despite what she describes as a "quiet boycott" by American studios, Sarandon continues to express strong criticism of Israel. She noted, however, that she has found considerable support internationally outside of Hollywood. Her latest role is in the Italian film "The Echo Chamber," where she plays a legendary singer alongside Alicia Vikander.

Sarandon thanked the film's director, Andrea Pallaorou, for casting her despite industry warnings. She views her participation in the project as proof that opportunities abroad have not entirely closed off, though she acknowledges the continued high professional cost for her statements within Hollywood's power centers.
