Israel Braces for Heatwave Through Wednesday, Forecasters Warn

Forecasters predict a significant heatwave across Israel, beginning Sunday and lasting through Wednesday. Sunday will see typical summer weather with partly cloudy to clear skies and a slight drop in temperatures, bringing them closer to the annual average. However, afternoons will be hot in mountainous areas and very hot to extremely hot in plains and coastal regions. Nights will be mild in the mountains and less so in the plains and coast.

Monday will bring hotter conditions, with temperatures rising about 3 degrees Celsius above the annual average, making it hot in the mountains and extremely hot elsewhere. Humidity will increase. Nights will remain mild in the mountains and less so elsewhere. Winds will be light to moderate, occasionally picking up, with light to moderate sea waves.

Tuesday is expected to be even hotter, with temperatures climbing another degree Celsius above the annual average, reaching about 4 degrees above normal. It will be hot in the mountains and extremely hot in plains and coastal areas during the day, with mild nights in the mountains and less mild nights elsewhere. Winds and sea conditions will be similar to Monday.

Wednesday will see a slight temperature decrease, but conditions will remain hot in the mountains and notably hot in the plains and coastal areas during the day. Nights will be mild in the mountains and less mild elsewhere.

By Thursday, temperatures are forecast to return to their annual average, with clear, hot daytime weather, especially in the afternoon. Evenings and nights will become pleasant and refreshing, particularly in higher mountainous regions. The Meteorological Service has issued warnings against prolonged direct sun exposure, especially between 11 AM and 4 PM, and cautioned against starting fires in dry grassy areas and leaving children or the elderly in closed vehicles.
