Israeli-Russian Journalist Arrested at Ben Gurion Airport on Espionage Charges

Israeli authorities have revealed the arrest of Artyom Kirpichenok, an Israeli-Russian citizen and prominent Russian journalist, at Ben Gurion Airport last month. Kirpichenok is suspected of operating as an agent for foreign intelligence services and carrying out influence operations on their behalf. He had arrived on a direct flight from Armenia.

According to reports, Kirpichenok previously lived in Israel for about 15 years, during which he served in the IDF and studied at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. However, he spent the last two decades in Russia, where he became a vocal critic of Israeli policies.

Sources close to Kirpichenok claim he was lured to Israel under the pretense of attending a fictitious international conference, which served as a "bait" to bring him into the country. Investigations after his arrest revealed that no such event was planned.

Following his detention, Kirpichenok was held in isolation by the Shin Bet for approximately 20 days without access to legal counsel. His defense attorneys argue that any confession obtained during this period was coerced under severe psychological and physical pressure and are seeking to have it disqualified. Despite these claims, prosecutors believe they have sufficient evidence and are preparing to file a serious indictment against him, requesting his remand until the end of proceedings.

The case is considered sensitive and complex due to Kirpichenok's background as a former Israeli resident and IDF soldier, combined with his current public profile in Russia.
