Israeli Citizen Arrested at Ben Gurion Airport on Espionage Charges

The individual, identified in Russian media reports as journalist Artyom Krapivnyuk, arrived in Israel about a month ago and was detained by the Shin Bet. The Central District Prosecutor's Office has filed an indictment against him for severe security violations and foreign influence operations against the state.

Details of the case are heavily restricted by a gag order, but court documents indicate the suspect was recruited by foreign intelligence and engaged in activities detrimental to Israel. He was arrested following a joint investigation by the Shin Bet and Israel Police. The prosecution is seeking his remand until the end of legal proceedings.

Russian news outlet Meduza reported that Krapivnyuk, who holds both Israeli and Russian citizenship and has resided in Russia since 2005, was detained by the Shin Bet upon his arrival. His family denies the charges, stating they are false and related to his connections in Russia. They emphasized that he has not harmed Israel and that Russia is not an enemy state.

The Russian ambassador to Israel confirmed a formal request regarding Krapivnyuk's case has been submitted, though embassy representatives have not yet been granted visitation rights due to his Israeli citizenship. The Russian Foreign Ministry has pledged continued support to the family.

Krapivnyuk's lawyer stated he was in a "difficult state" during his detention, experiencing severe depression and disorientation due to prolonged interrogations. She argued he was not in a significant position to cause harm to Israel and that his public profile led to speculation. The suspect was reportedly denied access to legal counsel for about ten days after his arrest.
