Armed Suspect Neutralized by Police After Firing at Officers in Netanya

A dramatic incident unfolded in Netanya's Kiryat Hasharon neighborhood on Saturday evening when a suspect armed with an M16 rifle opened fire on police officers. The officers responded swiftly, neutralizing the assailant, who is in critical condition. No other individuals were injured in the exchange of gunfire, though the sounds of shooting caused panic among residents who fled to their homes.

The incident began with reports of an armed individual walking the streets. Police arrived, identified the suspect carrying the M16, and when he aimed his weapon at them, they opened fire to neutralize the threat. Videos circulating from the scene show the armed man in the street and police forces securing the area.

Emergency medical services were called to the scene at 7:07 PM. A large police presence, including forces from the Central District, was deployed to secure the area, collect evidence, and investigate potential accomplices. Central District Commander, Superintendent Amir Cohen, visited the scene to oversee the investigation.

The suspect's identity and the full circumstances leading to the shooting are still under investigation. Police currently assess that the incident is likely not nationalistically motivated.
