Security Forces Neutralize Armed Man Firing at Police in Netanya

Police in Netanya, central Israel, neutralized an armed individual who fired at officers on Saturday evening in the Kiryat Sharon neighborhood. The suspect, identified as a member of the security forces, was carrying an M16 rifle and was shot and killed by police and combat soldiers after allegedly aiming the weapon at them. No other injuries were reported.

Initial investigations are underway, with the circumstances and motive for the shooting still unclear. Large police forces, including the Central District Commander, were present at the scene. Videos circulating online show a man walking in the street with a long rifle, and later, police arriving in protective gear.

The commander of the Netanya station stated that the incident was over and that the police were in the early stages of their investigation. The identity of the suspect has not yet been released.

Idan Kliman, chairman of the Organization of Disabled IDF Veterans, commented on reports that the deceased may have been a combat veteran suffering from PTSD. He called for a thorough investigation and emphasized the need for the state to support its soldiers who continue to battle trauma after leaving active service.
