Security Forces Neutralize Armed Man in Netanya After Exchange of Fire

Police forces in Netanya neutralized an armed individual who fired at officers in the Kiryat Sharon area on Saturday evening. The suspect, identified as a member of the security forces, was carrying an M16 rifle and aimed it at officers before they returned fire, according to police. The incident concluded with the suspect being killed at the scene, with no other reported injuries.

Initial investigations into the circumstances of the shooting are underway, with police stating that the suspect has not yet been identified and the motive remains unclear. Large police forces, including the Central District Commander, were present at the scene. Video footage circulating from the area shows a man walking in the street with a long rifle, and later, police officers arriving and donning protective vests.

The head of the Netanya police station, Superintendent Kobi Abutbul, confirmed the incident was over and that the police were in the early stages of their investigation. The Central District Commander is reportedly holding a situation assessment at the location.

Idan Kliman, chairman of the Organization of Disabled IDF Veterans, commented on reports that the deceased might be a combat veteran suffering from PTSD. He called for a "full and in-depth investigation" and stated that the incident serves as "another wake-up call" for Israel to support its veterans who continue to battle challenges after leaving active service.
