Israel Ends Water Crisis Following Algal Bloom Disruption

Israel's Water Authority announced on Friday that the country's water supply systems have stabilized, ending a crisis caused by an algal bloom in the Mediterranean Sea. Water is now being supplied to private consumers and the agricultural sector without restrictions. The crisis, which stemmed from the shutdown of desalination plants due to the bloom, has been resolved following an assessment by the Water Authority and the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure.

Normal water supply is being maintained through a combination of pumping from wells, water from the Sea of Galilee region, and the resumed operation of desalination plants. Mekorot, the national water company, plans to refill emergency and storage reservoirs over the weekend, taking advantage of reduced demand during rest days. This will ensure the system's uninterrupted operation during weekdays.

The Ministry of Health has confirmed that tap water remains safe for all domestic uses. To combat the algal bloom, controlled spraying of approved substances was conducted in the affected sea area. As a precautionary measure, the Ministry of Health has temporarily banned fishing in the treated zone until monitoring results are available.
