Israel Partially Operates Contaminated Desalination Plant Amid Water Shortage
Despite contamination, Israel's Water Authority has decided to partially operate the Palmahim desalination plant to produce a limited amount of water, aiming to alleviate the national water shortage. This decision comes as the Hadera desalination plant is the only facility currently operating at full capacity, following the shutdown of the other four plants.
The Hadera plant produces 137 million cubic meters of water annually, currently supplying approximately 400,000 cubic meters per day. David Mualem, CEO of the Hadera plant's operating company and deputy CEO of IDE Technologies, described the situation as unprecedented, noting that five desalination plants have never been simultaneously offline before.
