Gal Gadot Defends AI Use in New Film, Cites 'Train Has Left the Station'

Israeli actress Gal Gadot has addressed the controversy surrounding the use of artificial intelligence in her new film, "Bitcoin," stating that while she has concerns about the technology, it's impossible to ignore.

In an interview on the "Happy Sad Confused" podcast to promote her Amazon Prime action movie, "The Runner" (originally titled "In the Race Against Time"), Gadot revealed that her legal team spent six months crafting a contract to ensure AI would not alter her performance. "It was the longest contract I've ever worked on," she said, emphasizing that the AI had no connection to her acting. The Screen Actors Guild (SAG) reportedly consulted her lawyers for advice on updating their own contracts to protect other actors.

"Bitcoin," directed by Doug Liman, has drawn criticism for employing AI in its set and lighting design. The film, which also stars Casey Affleck, Pete Davidson, and Isla Fisher, was shot with actors performing in a bare, empty space. Producer Ryan Kavanaugh claimed the $70 million production saved over $200 million by using AI for artistic and lighting elements. Gadot acknowledged her fear of AI but stated, "The train has left the station. You either work with it, or you're out of the game." She described the AI's role as being limited to set and lighting, with a large crew still involved.

Gadot compared the filming experience to theater due to the minimal set, noting the efficiency of shooting without waiting for lighting adjustments. She also discussed her future as Wonder Woman, expressing uncertainty about returning for a third film due to family commitments. She reflected on her time as Wonder Woman, acknowledging the franchise's significance and wishing the best for future iterations, while also commenting on the handling of other DC actors and directors during leadership changes at DC Studios.
