Bungee Jumping Accident in Brazil Kills 21-Year-Old After Safety Rope Was Not Attached

A 21-year-old woman died in Limeira, in São Paulo state, Brazil, after falling about 40 meters during a bungee jump when operators allegedly failed to secure her to the safety rope. According to local military police reports, witnesses said site workers forgot to attach the safety harness before sending her off the bridge.

Video from the fatal moment showed three men carrying the woman to the jumping platform and pushing her down while the safety rope remained on the ground. Seconds later, people at the scene could be heard shouting, “The rope! People, the rope!”

Rescue and emergency medical teams were dispatched, but she was pronounced dead at the scene. Police arrested six people on suspicion of involvement in her death, and two of them were caught after attempting to flee and being pursued by police.

The victim’s partner, who saw the incident, collapsed and felt unwell, and was taken to hospital. The investigation has been handed over to local police in Limeira, which is examining the site’s operating procedures and the role of the companies responsible.
