Brazil Bungee Jumping Death Triggers Safety Failure Probe

A 24-year-old woman died on Saturday in São Paulo, Brazil, after being sent off a roughly 35-meter bungee platform without proper safety attachment, according to CNN Brazil. The victim had arrived at the attraction in the morning and paid about $290 for the jump and the video recording of the experience, which ended in tragedy.

Witnesses said the staff failed to check the cord before the jump. One woman who was there with her partner told CNN Brazil, “It was irresponsible on the part of the team. Three people jumped before her, and this time they did not check the rope. This was not just an accident. It is basic.”

Other onlookers filmed the incident and were heard screaming when they realized the young woman had been thrown from the bridge without a safety rope. They said the operators of the Entre Cordas attraction understood the mistake too late, then stood motionless for a long time. When they realized the rope was not attached, they tried to leave the site but were later detained by local police.

No arrests have been made so far. CNN Brazil reported that the company deleted its Instagram account immediately after the incident, while other customers were still waiting on the bridge. A WhatsApp group created to share information was also removed.
