Brazilian Woman, 21, Dies After Bungee Jumping Harness Error

A 21-year-old woman died on Saturday in Limeira, in Brazil's São Paulo state, after falling about 40 meters during a bungee jump. According to the local military police, witnesses said employees of the company operating the site forgot to attach her safety ropes before sending her off the bridge.

Video circulating on social media showed three men carrying the woman to the jumping platform and pushing her over the edge, while the safety rope lay on the ground behind them. Moments later, people at the scene were heard shouting, “The rope! People, the rope!” Only after she had been dropped did officials realize she was not secured.

Rescue teams and emergency medical crews were called, but her death was declared at the scene. Police said six people were arrested on suspicion of involvement. Two suspects allegedly tried to flee after understanding what had happened, but were caught following a police chase.

Brazilian media reported that the woman's boyfriend was present during the accident, collapsed, felt unwell, and was taken to the emergency room. The investigation has been handed to police in Limeira, who are examining the conduct of the companies that ran the site. As of now, neither company has commented on the deadly incident.
