A retired military police officer was critically injured in Minas Gerais, Brazil, after a pendulum-style jump from a bridge went disastrously wrong. During the stunt, he slammed into one of the bridge’s concrete pillars, lost consciousness immediately, and was left hanging from the ropes.
Firefighters were called to the scene and worked to rescue him while he remained suspended in the air. He was then rushed to a nearby hospital in serious condition. Video from the incident, which spread on social media, showed the moment the jump turned into a horrific accident and the injured man stranded helplessly on the harness.
The case has intensified concern around extreme sports in Brazil, coming just days after another fatal incident. In that earlier tragedy, 21-year-old Maria Eduarda Rodrigues de Freitas died after falling from a height of 40 meters off the Ponte do Escalvado bridge.
According to the report, the instructors in that case allegedly threw the young woman into the void without first checking that she was secured to a safety rope, causing her immediate death.
