Two Women Bitten by Snakes in Israel as Temperatures Rise, One in Serious Condition

The story · English

Two women were bitten by snakes in separate incidents in Israel on Wednesday amid rising temperatures. A 48-year-old woman was bitten on her lower limbs while working on Mikun Volcani Street in Rishon Lezion. Emergency Medical Services (MDA) treated her on site and transported her to Shamir Medical Center (Assaf Harofeh) in serious but stable condition. Paramedic Tehila Cohen reported the woman was conscious and received medication before being taken to the hospital.

In a separate case, a 26-year-old woman from Majd al-Krum was bitten near her home and admitted to the Galilee Medical Center. She underwent medical evaluation, received necessary treatment, and was hospitalized in the general intensive care unit in stable condition and fully conscious.

Dr. Khaled Atalla, head of the emergency medicine department at Galilee Medical Center, emphasized that venomous snake activity increases during this season. He advised that victims should remain calm, keep the bitten limb immobile to slow venom spread, and seek immediate hospital care. He also recommended photographing the snake from a safe distance for identification but warned against cutting the wound, sucking out venom, applying tourniquets, or attempting to catch the snake, as these actions can endanger both the victim and others.
