Israeli Air Force Promotes First Female Aircrew Officer to Brigadier General

The story · English

The Israeli Air Force marked a historic milestone on July 13, 2026, when Chief of Staff Herzi Zamir promoted Colonel G' to the rank of Brigadier General. G', currently serving as the commander of Ovda Airbase since May 2024, was appointed as the new air attaché in Washington, D.C. This promotion makes her the highest-ranking female aircrew officer in the history of the Israeli Air Force.

G', 42, has achieved several groundbreaking accomplishments during her military career. She was the first woman in the Israel Defense Forces to command an airbase and, seven years ago, became the first female to lead a flying squadron, specifically the "Nachshon" squadron, which operates intelligence and reconnaissance aircraft. While other female officers have previously attained the rank of Brigadier General, they did so while serving in the "Green Corps" (ground forces) and only later returned to the Air Force. G' is the first female aircrew officer to reach this senior rank directly under Air Force command.

The appointment of G' as air attaché in Washington is considered unprecedented within the Air Force. This advancement reflects both her personal achievements and the evolving role of women in senior military leadership positions within the Israeli Air Force.
