Air Force Base Commander Set to Become First Female Colonel in IDF Air Force
The Israeli Air Force continues its active operations against Hezbollah, intercepting dozens of unmanned aerial vehicles and striking multiple rocket launchers. In a historic move, the commander of Ovda Airbase, a lieutenant colonel referred to as Colonel G, is expected to be promoted to brigadier general next summer, becoming the first female pilot in the IDF to reach this rank.
Colonel G has transformed Ovda into a multi-branch base that serves as a key hub for inter-service and international cooperation. About a year ago, she helped establish the Border Defense School at the base in collaboration with the Ground Forces. Previously, she commanded the "Nachshon" squadron at Nevatim Airbase, responsible for intelligence gathering missions, and served as head of the attack branch in the Air Force Operations Directorate before her current appointment.
This promotion marks a significant milestone in the IDF Air Force's leadership, highlighting the expanding roles of women in senior military positions. The announcement was made by the IDF Spokesperson's Unit amid ongoing security operations in northern Israel.
