Israeli Air Force Base Commander Appointed Air Attaché in Washington and Promoted to Brigadier General
The Israeli Air Force announced that Colonel G, the commander of Ovda Air Base and the first woman to hold such a position in the Air Force, has been appointed as the air attaché in Washington, D.C., and will be promoted to brigadier general. This appointment was decided during a placement meeting led by Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir on Monday night. G, 42, began her historic command of Ovda Air Base in May 2024 and previously made history seven years ago as the first woman to command the "Nachshon" squadron, which operates intelligence and reconnaissance aircraft.
G joined the Air Force flight course in 2003 and graduated as a transport pilot flying Hercules aircraft. Throughout her career, she has held various operational and command roles, including serving as head of the strike branch in the Air Force Operations Directorate. Former Air Force Commander Major General Tomer Bar praised her appointment, expressing confidence that it signals a future with more women influencing and enhancing the Air Force across all levels.
Her new role as air attaché in Washington will make her the highest-ranking woman in the Israeli Air Force, marking a significant milestone in the military's history and ongoing efforts to promote gender equality in senior positions.
