Tal Politis Promoted to Brigadier General, Set for Washington Posting

Tal Politis, a former World Bible Quiz champion who grew up in Neve Dekalim in Gush Katif, was promoted yesterday to the rank of brigadier general in a formal ceremony at Camp Rabin, the IDF headquarters in Tel Aviv. He is the first brigadier general to emerge from the Atzmona pre-military academy, where he studied under Rabbi Rafi Peretz.

The ceremony was held in the presence of Defense Minister Israel Katz and Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir, along with members of the IDF General Staff Forum and officers who are family members of the honoree. With his new rank, Politis is due to take up his next post as the IDF attache in Washington.

Politis began his military service in Shayetet 13, rising through its command track to become one of the unit's most prominent commanders. He later held several senior posts, including commander of the 55th Brigade, commander of the Haifa naval base, commander of the Navy's Sea Branch, and most recently commander of the Navy Staff Branch, considered the second-most important position in the Navy's command hierarchy.

In his remarks, Politis said more than two and a half years of war had taught Israel the need to stand firm, show courage and act independently, while also working fully with international partners to build and operate force so as to ensure the country's security and strength. He said the strategic partnership with the United States, especially as reflected during the war and the war with Iran in particular, was central to that effort, and thanked the defense minister and chief of staff for entrusting him with the role overseas.
