Israeli Air Force’s First Female Brigadier General Appointed as Air Attaché in Washington
Colonel G, commander of the Ovda Airbase in the Israeli Air Force, is set to be promoted to the rank of brigadier general as she assumes her new role as Israel’s air attaché in Washington, becoming the first woman in the Air Force to achieve this rank. At 42 years old, Colonel G enlisted in the Air Force flight course in 2003 and served as a transport pilot. In 2024, she became the first woman to command an Air Force base when she was appointed commander of Ovda Airbase (Airbase 10).
Previously, she served as head of the attack branch in the Air Operations Directorate and, in 2019, became the first woman to command an operational flight squadron in the "Nachshon" Squadron (Squadron 122) based at Nevatim Airbase. Before her, Yehudit Grizero served in the Air Force and reached colonel rank, later promoted to brigadier general when appointed as the IDF Chief of Staff’s advisor on women’s affairs and head of the personnel branch.
In a 2020 interview with Yedioth Ahronoth, Colonel G emphasized her focus on skills and standards rather than gender, stating, "I don’t see myself as a woman who became a squadron commander, but as a person with certain abilities suited to the time and place. I compare myself to my peers, not to other women. The role has high standards, and those who meet them advance. My approach is to look at people and maximize their capabilities, which applies to various groups, not just women."
