Supreme Court Blocks Election App Tracking Non-Voters

Israel's Supreme Court has prohibited the use of the 'Elector' application, which allowed parties to track and report on citizens who did not vote in real-time during elections. The decision came in response to petitions filed against the app's functionality.

This ruling overturns an earlier decision by the Central Elections Committee, which had approved the app's use earlier in the month. The Supreme Court's decision was explained by Justice Yael Willner, who stated that the app's operation constitutes a violation of the right to privacy.

The app's purpose was to enable political parties to identify and potentially contact individuals who had not yet cast their ballots, thereby facilitating get-out-the-vote efforts. The court's intervention halts this practice, citing privacy concerns.
