Bnei Herzliya Disputes Max Heidegger's Hapoel Tel Aviv Signing
Basketball club Bnei Herzliya has officially responded to Hapoel Tel Aviv's signing of player Max Heidegger, asserting that Heidegger remains under contract with Herzliya. According to Herzliya's statement, Heidegger signed a contract through the 2026-27 season with a clause allowing him to break the agreement only to play abroad. In June, Heidegger informed Herzliya he was exercising this option to sign with Spanish club Burgos.
Herzliya claims that by signing with Hapoel Tel Aviv, Heidegger has not met the conditions for voiding his contract, and therefore, his contract with Herzliya remains valid. A binding arbitration hearing on the matter is scheduled to begin on September 7.
Herzliya expressed confidence that the arbitration will rule in their favor, determining that Heidegger breached his contract terms and must honor his agreement with Herzliya. The club stated its respect for the Israeli Basketball Association and legal institutions, pledging to abide by the arbitration's decision.
In a pointed remark, Herzliya suggested that Hapoel Tel Aviv, despite being aware of the contract details, proceeded with the signing and presented it as a fait accompli just before the arbitration hearing, potentially acting contrary to the arbitration process.
