Max Heidegger Signs One-Year Deal with Hapoel Tel Aviv

American-Israeli basketball player Max Heidegger, 29, has officially signed a one-year contract with Hapoel Tel Aviv, the club announced on Sunday. The guard, who previously played for Hapoel's domestic rival Bnei Herzliya, joins the team through the end of the 2026/27 season. The move has reportedly been met with opposition from Bnei Herzliya, and the dispute is expected to be settled in court.

Heidegger expressed his excitement about joining Hapoel Tel Aviv, stating, "I can't be prouder. I look forward to achieving great things together." He highlighted the club's aspirations in both the Israeli league and the EuroLeague as key factors in his decision. Hapoel Tel Aviv's coach, Dimitris Itoudis, described Heidegger as a "very talented and smart player" and a "point guard" who is "full of motivation" and aware of the expectations.

Professional Manager Giorgiou Hinnas added that Heidegger is known for his "offensive abilities and playmaking talent" and will enhance the team's competitiveness. Heidegger arrives at Hapoel Tel Aviv after a stint with Spanish club Burgos, where he averaged 12.4 points per game. Previously, he played for Bnei Herzliya, averaging 15.2 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 3.1 assists per game.

Heidegger's career in Israel began with Maccabi Tel Aviv, followed by loans to Bnei Herzliya and German club Oldenburg. He has also played for teams in Turkey, Spain, and Italy, as well as the Windy City Bulls in the NBA G League, before returning to Israel in the summer of 2025 to sign with Bnei Herzliya.
