Israel Threatens Escalation Over Hamas-Directed Gaza Kite Attacks

Israel has demanded that the UN Security Council address the recent kite attacks from Gaza within the next three days to prevent a significant escalation by Israel in the region. A security official told Kan News that the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) will substantially increase airstrikes in Gaza if the kite launches continue. Israeli defense sources believe Hamas is orchestrating these kite flights to test Israel's response. In line with this assessment, the Israeli security establishment has decided to intensify its strikes, targeting Hamas weapons depots rather than just individual militants, as was customary before.

On Monday, the IDF struck Hamas arms warehouses, marking a shift from previous operations focused on neutralizing immediate threats. The day before, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz warned that if the launches of kites, drones, and balloons do not cease immediately, the IDF will escalate its efforts to eliminate those responsible and evacuate populations from launch areas. They emphasized that Israel will not return to the pre-October 7 security situation and will not allow Hamas or any other Gaza-based group to threaten Israeli communities or undermine citizens' sense of security.

The renewed kite attacks have raised concerns among residents in the Gaza border area, prompting the IDF to prepare for orders to increase targeted operations against Hamas. This development signals a potential intensification of the conflict between Israel and Hamas in Gaza if provocations persist.
