YouTube Premium Raises Subscription Prices Sharply in Israel

Google has announced a significant price increase for YouTube Premium subscriptions in Israel, with monthly fees rising by 20% to 25% across all plans. The updated pricing means single-user subscriptions will jump from 23.9 to 29.9 shekels per month, a 25% increase. Family plans will see about a 20% rise, going from 45.9 to 54.9 shekels monthly, while the discounted student plan will increase from 15.9 to 18.9 shekels. New customers are already paying the higher rates, and existing subscribers will be charged the new prices starting in October 2026.

YouTube Premium offers an ad-free viewing experience, background playback, and content downloads, enhancing the free platform's usability. Despite this, many users consider the service essential due to the frequent ads interrupting longer videos. The price hike in Israel is notably steeper than in other markets; for example, the United States saw a less than 20% increase earlier this year. This rise comes despite a 12% depreciation of the US dollar against the shekel over the past year, which would typically reduce costs for Google.

Google justifies the price increase as necessary to maintain excellent service quality, launch new features, and support content creators and artists on the platform. However, Israeli consumers have expressed widespread criticism, accusing the company of exploiting its dominant market position to impose sharp price hikes amid a period when households are trying to reduce fixed expenses.
