Maccabi Tel Aviv Sells Henry Edu to Portuguese Second Division Club Tondela
Maccabi Tel Aviv officially announced the sale of Henry Edu, the 23-year-old Ghanaian winger, to Tondela, a club in Portugal's second division. Edu, who struggled to make a significant impact during his time with Maccabi, will now seek more playing opportunities in Portugal.
Edu joined Maccabi Tel Aviv in February 2024 from Žilina and made 31 appearances across all competitions, scoring three goals. Last season, he was loaned to OFK Belgrade, where he played 16 matches and scored twice. His transfer to Tondela marks the end of his roughly two-and-a-half-year stint with Maccabi, during which he was unable to secure a key role in the squad.
For Maccabi Tel Aviv, Edu's departure is also strategic, as it opens a foreign player slot that could be used to sign a new international recruit. One of the main candidates reportedly being considered is Thibaut Batten, a winger from Go Ahead Eagles. The club still needs to resolve its foreign player quota issues to finalize new signings.
