Maccabi Haifa Eyes Return of Midfielder Mohammed Abu Fani from Red Star Belgrade

Mohammed Abu Fani, the Israeli midfielder who recently joined Red Star Belgrade, may be on his way back to Maccabi Haifa. According to Serbian outlet Sport Klub, Maccabi Haifa is interested in bringing Abu Fani back, preferably on a loan deal. The likelihood of his departure from Red Star is considered high due to recent changes at the club, including the departure of coach Dejan Stanković, who had specifically requested Abu Fani's signing.

Abu Fani's performances, including in matches against Hapoel Be'er Sheva, have not solidified his position at Red Star. The Serbian club paid 1.5 million euros to Ferencváros for Abu Fani, but Maccabi Haifa is reportedly unwilling to pay that amount to re-sign him. The decision on his future will depend on the new Red Star coach, Albert Riera, and whether Abu Fani fits into his plans.

In Serbia, players Rade Krunić and Timmy Elsnik are expected to be prioritized in midfield, with Badžou also likely to return to contention. Abu Fani will miss the upcoming match against Viktoria Plzeň due to a red card received against Hapoel Be'er Sheva. Additionally, Abu Fani’s contract with Red Star runs until 2029, reportedly paying him between 650,000 and 750,000 euros annually, the highest salary of his career, which may influence his willingness to leave.
